Why study with us?

Tropical and infectious diseases bear a wide spectrum and inevitable burden to human lives; they remain a prominent cause of morbidity and mortality in tropical countries including the Sudan. Moreover, there is a real need for this specialization by the growing number of doctors interested to work in this specialty. An initiative taken up by the University of Medical Sciences & Technology to implement this master programme in Sudan.
Aims: This course aims to provide training in clinical tropical medicine and infectious diseases and to develop candidates’ knowledge and comprehension to the preventive and curative management strategies which promote health and well-being in tropical countries.

Objectives: By the end of this course the students should be able:-
  • Describe the causation, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, management and control of the major parasitic, bacterial, and viral diseases of tropical countries. 
  • Upgrade clinical skills in tropical and infectious diseases in order to make appropriate clinical decision.  Demonstrate knowledge and skills in diagnostic laboratory methods. 
  • Apply epidemiological principles, analyse and interpret statistical tests. 
  • Introduce concepts and strategies of prevention and control of diseases
Admission requirement: Admission into Master of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases Programme:-

-Applicants qualify for admission to Master of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases programmes if they hold an MBBS degree from UMST or equivalent qualification from another recognized university. 

-Applicants must complete their houseman ship. 

-Applicants with some work experience also have additional advantage. 

Interview: – At Faculty and Progammes level applicants, shall be interviewed for assessment of their clinical and academic suitability, knowledge and their reasonable command of English language.

Course duration: Duration is two academic years (3 semesters)

Entry Requirement

The applicant must have and fulfill the following requirement: 

  1. Original school certificate authenticated by the higher education and foreign affairsministers. 
  2.  A copy of birth certificate. 
  3. A copy of valid passport 
  4. Three- passport size photographs. 
  5. Curriculum vitae with experience 
  6. First Degree in MBSS (Medicine and Surgery) from any institution that is approved by the CU and UMST and authenticated by the higher education and foreign affairs ministers. 
  7.  Candidates intending are required to have good command of English as pre-requisites for entry into this graduate programme. (Formal Assessment for English level of proficiency) 
  8. File for documentation  Payment Registration fee 100$ 
  9. Payment of number of University from Minister of Higher education in Sudan 100$

Program Administration

-Duration of study for this programme is 18 months or 3 semesters. 

-Classes for the programme are conducted at Capital University Of Somalia 

-Some Practical session will be under taken at NOVA Diagnostic and Research Center and Medipark Medical Diagnostic and Research.

-In Hospital Practical ; the students will take in houseman ship in Some Hospital

Financial Arrangements

  1. Tuition fees for the programmes is 3500 USD (three thousand and five hundred United States Dollars), and included the registration fee and roll number from Ministry of Higher Education in Sudan is 200$) 
  2. The installment arrangements are 40% within first semester, then 30% within the second semester and last 30% within third semester.
