workshop on Manuscript Writing

From October 27 to 29, 2025, Capital University of Somalia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health- Somalia and the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), and Global Financing Facility GFF hosted a three-day workshop on Manuscript Writing.

The capacity-strengthening workshop was conducted in Mogadishu, Somalia, focusing on improving knowledge translation in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH). The primary objective of this training was to enhance the in-country team’s ability to effectively communicate research findings for policy and advocacy purposes, thereby contributing to better maternal and child health outcomes in the region.

The workshop featured hands-on training sessions utilizing the Countdown to 2030 approach and its associated tools. Participants engaged in various activities designed to transform complex health data into actionable insights. This practical training allowed them to understand the essential processes involved in effective knowledge translation and ensure that research findings are accessible to policymakers and stakeholders.

By the conclusion of the workshop, participants successfully applied the knowledge and skills they had gained to develop a range of knowledge products. They produced strong manuscript sections, synthesized and interpreted findings from their analyses, and created effective data visualizations and tables. Furthermore, they learned how to select suitable journals for publication, adhere to publication ethics, and formulate comprehensive action plans to complete and submit their manuscripts.

Overall, the workshop met its objectives by empowering participants to communicate research findings more effectively and advocate for improved health policies. The skills and knowledge acquired during these three days will significantly enhance maternal and child health initiatives in Somalia, setting the stage for informed policy decisions and strengthened advocacy efforts in the future.
